Activities of the
Department of History
·
Under graduation Programme in History
was started in the year 1969 which was affiliated to University of Madras,
Chennai Thiru Kolanjiappar
Govt Arts College, Vridhachalam came under the jurisdiction
of Newly formed Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore in the year 2003. The college
got permission for P.G. in History in the year 2011. During the academic year
2015-2016, the University has given permission to enrol scholars for M.Phil.
Programme in History to this college.

On 13.07.2015 Department of History
Organised, one day National Level Seminar on Human Rights to make awareness among
the student Community on natural rights and other rights of people in the
society. There are 476
Participants actively Participated.in
the seminar. During the Academic year 2015-2016, Twelve M.Phil. scholars were
admitted in the department of History, Dr. A. Raja
ram, Assistant Professor in History awarded Doctor of Philosophy in History on
30-12-2015.

The Department of History organised, one
day educational trip to Gangaikonda Cholapuram on 7-8-2016. It is an Historical Monumental
place of Tourist attraction. There are 36 Students attended the trip and got exposure on
art and architectural grandeur of the temple and Gopuras in the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple. During
this Academic year twenty research Scholars were enrolled in M.Phil. Programme
in History

The Department of History organised, one
day cultural Trip to Vridha greeswarer
Temple, VridSdhachalam on 12-07-2017. Dr.S.Kannan, Assistant Professor
in History, R.D.M. College, Sivagangai Participanted as a Special invitee and explained the
artistic and cultural glory of Vridhagreeswarer
Temple to P.G. and M.Phil. Students of Department of History Thiru Kolanjiappar Govt Arts
College, Vridhachalam. The students raised their
queries and got clearance of their doubts from the expert and enjoyed the trip
in a splendid manner.

During the Academic year, Department of
History Celebrated World Tourism Day on 27-09-2018 in the college
premises. Dr.V.Velu Principal of the college graced the occasion
and delivered inaugural address in the function. Dr.R.
Mathivanan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of
History Presided over the function and delivered the presidential address.
Prof. R.Rangaraju, Assistant
Professor, Department of History delivered thematic address in the function. Dr,K.Karthikeyan, Assistant Professor,
Department of History welcomed the gatherings
in this occasion. Dr.K.Appadurai,
Assistant Professor, Department of History delivered a key note address in this occasion. More
than 273 Students
actively participated in this function. Dr.A.Prabhakaran, Assistant Professor, Department of
History has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy in History on 14-9-2018.

Dr.A.Prabhakaran, Assistant Professor
in the History Department of History has been bestowed with “Punnia Puravalar award” by Vallalar
Education Training and Research institute, Vadalur,
on 08-09- 2019 for rendering yeomen
service to student community . Also he got “Perasiriyar Perunthagai Award” by
Marutham Art and literature society on 13 -10- 2019.

During the Academic year, Department of
History organised, two days National Level webinar on ‘Socio-Political Trends
in India’ from 11-06-2020 to 12-06-2020 at Thiru Kolanjiappar Govt Arts College, Vridhachalam.
Dr.A.Prabhakaran, has been
acted as Director of the webinar. More than Seven hundred and fifty nine members participated in the webinar.

The Department of History organised, two
days International webinar on “Tradition: A new Dimension in Modernity” from
09-07-2020 to 10-07-2020 Dr.A.Prabhakaran, Assistant Professor in History, Department of
History acted as Director of the webinar. Dr,K.Karthikeyan,
Dr.S.Sivakumar
and Dr. R.Elamaran acted as
Deputy Directors of the webinar. More
than one Thousand six hundred participants were actively participated in the
webinar.

The Department of History organised, four
days National level Quiz Programme on the theme of “ Socio- and
Cultural History of India” from 22-07-2020 to 250-07-2020. Dr.A.Prabhakaran, Assistant Professor, Department of
History acted as secretary of the Quiz programme. Four hundred participants
actively participated in the quiz programme.

One day National level webinar was
organised in the Department of History on the topic of “Rethinking Womanhood., Mainstreams
and Cutting Edges” on 02-08-2020 Dr. R.Elamaran acted as Director of the webinar Dr. P. Jeyabalakrishnan and Dr.K.Appadurai acted as Co-coordinators of the webinar. More than one Thousand Three hundred and eighty
nine participants attended the programme.

The odd semester of the academic year reached
its culmination point though the period is entirely occupied by the pandemic Covid-19.
The Even semester of the academic year commenced with new strength and vigour.
Amenities
of the Department of history
·
P.G. and Research Department of History T.K. Govt. Arts College,
Vridhachalam endowed with a good library with more
than seven thousands Books. Of which 2069 Books
pertaining to reference Materials level and rest of the books related to
subject and General Knowledge. The student and Research scholars referring the
books for their examination point of view and Research aspects.

More than fifty Maps were kept preserved in the Department of
History pertaining to World History and Indian History and
Regional History in view of pointing out the locations and other resources in
History.

Syllabus oriented and other aspect books to the tune of Rs. 15000/-
Purchased during this period with the financial assistance of Government of
Tamil Nadu State fund (Head.47)
·
Department of History purchased books related to reference materials
worth of Rs 17000 allocated from Government of Tamil Nadu State fund (Head.47).
·
The Government of Tamil Nadu State fund (Head.47). Rs 18000 has
been utilized for the purchase of subject books in the department library.
·
Department of History Purchased books in connection in the
General Knowledge for competitive examination to the tune of Rs 18000 during
this period.
·
In View of developing Colleges situated in rural
areas, Central Government assigned grants under RUSA scheme worth of Rs.55000 for purchasing HP computer
system. During this period the system has been utilized for departmental
purposes. Rs.16000 received from state fund to purchase the
books for the department library.
·
Under the state fund, Worth of
Rs.14000 has been utilized for purchasing Books in the department library
during this period.
