The department of History was established in the year 1969 and receiving the endownment from the Arulmigu thiru Kolanjiappar thirukovil virudachalam. At the first instance B.A History programme was started in the college. During the year 2012-2013 M.A History course was introduced. In the year 2013-2014 M.Phil Programme in History has been introduced both part time and regular mode. After that the department of History has been elevated as P.G & Research Department of History in the College, affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. At present there are twelve faculties working in the department of History.

The department has produced 25 M.Phil scholars so far. The students studied in the department of History has occupied various positions both state and central Governments.

The department has actively involved in teaching and research and contributed a lot to the society in general and to History in particular. The department has maintained a very good library which contains ample number of books that sharpen accademic knowledge of the students to crack their regular exam and competitive examinations.
