Department of Zoology was established in the year 1979-1980 under Madras University and then in 2004 it was affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University Serkkadu, Vellore. Since 1979 the medium of instruction was tamil and english with the total seats of 29 each and later on it was increased to 35 respectively.

In 2012-2013 the department was upgraded to PG & Research Department of zoology with the total seats of 20, followed by in the year 2013-2014 M.Phil course was started with full time and part time scholars.Finally in the year 2018-2019 PhD course was also started with full time and part time scholars.Our Department was well known for producing various University ranks constantly.In the academic year 2013-2016 Miss Jonthini secured University gold medal for her educational excellence.More over our lab was designed with sophisticated high quality Bio-instrumentation.At present 10 eminent faculties are working out of which 9 faculties were with doctorates from reputed universities and we have two well trained lab assistants. Many alumnus of our department were well placed in and around the world.Our department stands as an icon for zoological studies among all other colleges in Tamil Nadu.
